Baker Report Update.

This is an old page now and will be removed shortly.

This is the governments response to the Baker Report. Below is the extract from that response that deals with the area that most concerns us. Although it appears the government will do something about  the Use Classes Order and Temporary Uses What it says further on in the response is that areas that can not be incorporated into present legislation will be legislated for. This is one of those areas.

If you want to read the whole response document it is on :-

Office of the Deputy Prime Minister

Sustainable Communities - Delivering through Planning

paragraph 50

In January we issued a consultation paper on possible options for change to the Use Classes Order and Temporary Uses provisions. We received some 2,500 responses. We are carefully considering these and will make further announcements about how we intend to proceed as soon as practicable. 18.07.02

We Still have time to fight this pending legislation but we must act.

The Government want this planning act finished and in place by 2004. But it will be done in stages rather than as one act. So if it is done piece meal the section that concerns our sport could be implement as soon as next year if we are very unlucky.

If you have not already written to your MP why not ? Ostriches that stick their heads in the sand get their bums blown off.

It has been suggested that we do a drive through London as the lorry drivers did.

Direct action may be the way to go in the future but at present I suggest that we now write, e-mail direct to Mr John Prescott himself as it is his department that is pushing this legislation through. We also need to form alliances with all the other rally and off road clubs in order to fight this. We also need to join up with the National Farmers Union which is the biggest pressure and lobby group that can give us real clout. So Watch this space.
